6 Months Before The Wedding - Episode 1
by Aurora Bisou
Hey, can you come home early?
Like, now?
Well…it’s important.
Sarah, I have a big meeting today—
But I’ll cancel it and come home if you need me.
You’re going to be my wife.
I want to be there for you.
Thanks Rob. That’s really sweet. 😘
And because you’re going to be my husband, I want to be honest with you.
I AM really worried about something…
two minutes later
Rob?
I mean, I guess it can wait until the end of the day…
Can’t you tell me over text?
No, I’d rather do it in person.
It’s too important.
I’m coming home.
If it’s too important for text—
Then it’s important enough for me to cancel the meeting to be with you.
Rob, thank you. Seriously.
twenty minutes later
Where are you?
I just got home and you’re not here.
OMG, wait. Are you okay??!
I’m okay. I’m on my way back from the store.
Sarah, are you KIDDING me?!
I cancelled an important meeting to come home to you.
I can’t believe you’d just leave like that.
Sarah??
Ten minutes later, Sarah pulls into her parking spot at the apartment complex.
She and Rob bought a place there three months ago, right after they got engaged.
When Robert sees her get out of the car, carrying a plastic bag, he throws open the door, yelling.
What is going on?!
You SERIOUSLY thought it was a good time to go shopping right now??
Can we please do this inside, Rob?
You know what—NO.
By putting you first today, I could get in huge trouble at my job.
I think it’s fair for you to put me first now.
Fine.
With that, Sarah throws the plastic bag at Robert’s chest.
He looks inside and, as the color runs out of his face,
He starts to whisper, almost reverently.
Is this a pregnancy test??
Yes.
Are you…??
I don’t know. Can we go inside to talk about it?
I want to keep it private.
Rob nods numbly and lets Sarah guide him into the apartment.
You’re… you’re going to have a baby?
Well, we don’t know that for sure.
I mean, that’s why I got the pregnancy test.
Sarah, I…
I REALLY want this to be real.
I know I’m getting ahead of myself—
But what if it’s a girl with your smile??
Rob, stop.
This is a lot for me to handle right now.
We’re not even married.
But the wedding’s in six months!
We’re GETTING married.
And it’s so beautiful that we’re already starting a family.
I WANT to have a family with you.
Rob, slow down. One step at a time.
Let’s see if we’re actually pregnant first.
Okay.
Want me to come in the bathroom with you?
Ew, Rob! NO.
But you can hold my hand after…
When we have to wait the three minutes for the result.
Okay. Anything I can do to help.
Thanks for coming home.
Of course. You’re going to be my wife.
Sarah goes into the bathroom, and when she comes out her hands are shaking.
Robert takes the pregnancy test from her and places it on the counter.
Then he presses a button on his cellphone, and music fills the room.
It’s THINKING OUT LOUD by Ed Sheeran—the song they chose for their wedding dance.
Sarah?
I’ll sit and hold your hands while we wait if you want…
But instead, why don’t we dance?
Tears fill Sarah’s eyes, and suddenly, she can’t speak without crying…
So she just nods her head. Robert starts singing low, right into her ear.
When your legs don't work like they used to before…
And I can't sweep you off of your feet…
When one of Sarah’s teardrops falls on Robert’s shoulder,
He pulls back to look in her eyes.
What’s wrong?
I’m just so scared.
I mean, I want to keep the baby if the test is positive…
But we had this whole perfect wedding planned.
Our parents put down so much money…
WE put down so much money…
And now, with the pregnancy, it might not be perfect anymore.
What do you mean?
It’ll still be us, getting married to each other.
I’ll still get to marry the girl of my dreams.
Yes, but the girl of your dreams is going to look fat in her wedding dress.
What?
Pregnancy kind of changes a woman’s body, Rob…
Yeah I know, but that doesn’t mean you’ll look fat.
You’ll be glowing.
And you’ll be carrying my child.
Sare, you’ll look beautiful—it’s not possible for you to look another way.
But I won’t be able to drink at our wedding!
Haha, please. I know you—and I know that doesn’t really matter to you.
Not when it means you’ll get a brilliant, gorgeous baby in exchange.
That’s true.
And she could have your eyes…
Ahh, so you think she’s a girl too?
Nah, he’s definitely a boy… I just didn’t want to hurt your feelings.
Haha, there’s my fiancée—you’re getting your sense of humor back.
I’m trying, anyway.
Just then, the song ends.
Does that mean…?
Yeah. Are you ready to look?
Ready as I’ll ever be.
Okay…
Robert reaches for the test.
Wait!
What?
Let’s count down from three.
Okay. One…
Two…
Three!
He flips the test over and when they see the positive sign,
They don’t say a word. Robert just wraps Sarah into a hug.
And this time, Sarah doesn’t cry…joy takes over and she starts to laugh.
The laughter is contagious. It spills over her and into Robert,
And soon they’re laughing in each other’s arms.
We’re going to have a baby!
I know—it’s a miracle.
YOU’RE a miracle.
Robert grasps Sarah’s face between his palms and gives her a hard, passionate kiss.
When they pull back, Sarah looks deeply into Robert’s eyes.
Rob?
I have an idea.
Instead of throwing this big expensive wedding…
Instead of shoving my pregnant body into a wedding dress…
Can we cancel everything and have a small ceremony?
What? Are you sure?
You wanted a big wedding.
I did. But I don’t anymore.
Now I want a family.
And I want to always put it first, just like you always do…
From now until the day I die.
