Are We Exclusive - Episode 1
by Eric Levin
“Are we exclusive?”
That’s all you have to ask.
It’s easy for you to say…
You’re not the one asking!
You’ve dated Bobby for over a month…
You sleepover every weekend…
You HAVE to ask!
Lisa has a point.
More importantly…
I’ve seriously fallen for Bobby.
I feel like I’ve known him my whole life.
There’s just one problem…
He said he wanted to keep things casual 😭
That was on his dating profile!
It was before he met you!
I don’t wanna rock the boat…
What if he gets scared and stops seeing me?
Then he’s a fool, Tessa.
But you won’t know if you don’t ask.
Ugh. She makes it seem so simple.
But am I willing to risk everything?
I hear Bobby’s footsteps as he returns to the living room.
I turn—
And he’s holding slices of cake.
Surprise!
Sorry I took so long.
My eyes light up.
Carrot cake is my favorite!
How could I forget?
You talked about it for like, 20 minutes!
We laugh.
Bobby hated carrot cake as a kid.
I suggested he try it again.
And it looks like he’s listening.
He sits beside me on the couch…
And takes a bite.
Verdict?
Better than I remembered.
He flashes his cute dimples.
And I feel all warm.
Are you staying the night?
I could stay through spring.
But I want him to give me a sign…
That he wants me to stay long-term, too.
…If you want me to.
That’d be nice.
He digs into his cake.
I want to ask him…
“Are we exclusive?”
It’s a normal enough question.
So why am I so petrified?
I take a deep breath.
Here it goes!
I’m having a nice time.
Me too.
He rubs my back.
You’re the highlight of my week.
I glow like a star.
Now’s the time to ask!
Actually, Bobby…
I’ve been wondering…
Bobby leaps from the couch.
Oops. I forgot napkins!
He skips from the room.
Even his skip is cute.
Then, there’s a buzz from his phone on the couch.
I don’t mean any harm…
But I get a peek at his message.
And wish I didn’t.
I immediately grab my own phone.
Bad news, Lisa…
He said no?
I haven’t asked yet.
But I just saw his phone…
He has a new message on Tinder 😔
Oh crap.
Don’t jump to conclusions!
Don’t jump?!
I’m plummeting off a cliff.
He’s dating someone else!
Maybe even more than one someone else.
Tessa, relax…
What did the message say?
Do I have to repeat it?
I’d rather curl up in a ball.
“Hey, you free to grab drinks next weekend?”
What should I do?
Exactly what you were going to do!
They haven’t exchanged numbers…
Or they wouldn’t be messaging on Tinder.
If you like him…
You need to tell him how you feel.
But what if he isn’t ready to settle down with me?
Bobby and I click, sure…
But we’re very different.
I’m disorganized…
And he’s a big neat freak.
Maybe he wants someone neat like him.
Bobby returns with ice cream and napkins…
And flashes his trademark grin.
Did you miss me?
You got ice cream, too?
Who eats cake without it?
What’s the celebration?
Bobby arches his brow.
Our time together isn’t celebration enough?
I force a laugh.
But if our time is such a celebration…
Then who’s that other woman?
Why is he still on Tinder?
Why isn’t he just…
With me?
Lisa’s right.
I need to ask the question.
Bobby?
I was wondering…
My mouth dries up.
Yes?
He watches me, thoughtfully.
God. This is awkward.
We’ve been dating awhile…
So I thought I’d ask…
Do you want to be exclusive?
Bobby freezes up.
Oh, no.
My heart starts racing…
And the words leave my mouth before I’m even done thinking them.
I know you wanted to keep things casual.
But I really like you…
Really, REALLY like you.
…And I WANT to be exclusive with you.
My face is on fire.
I brace myself for rejection.
Bobby faces me on the couch.
He takes a deep breath…
Before speaking slowly.
Tessa…
When we first met…
I wasn’t ready for a relationship.
I know.
I didn’t think I’d feel this way…
I look at my hands and whisper.
But I’ve fallen for you so badly.
Bobby grips my hands.
I look up to his gentle gaze.
And it floods me with warmth.
I know…
And my feelings have changed.
My heart leaps.
He brushes a hair from my eyes.
Now, I know what I want…
And it’s you.
It’s only you.
I exhale deeply.
Our silence is intense.
And we stare at each other with fire in our eyes.
I want you too.
I want you more.
We giggle.
But then there’s another buzz from his phone.
Bobby must see the concern on my face.
Because he picks up his phone…
And hands it to me.
If you don’t mind…
I’d like you to do the honor…
Of deleting Tinder from my phone.
I blush.
Are you sure?
I haven’t actually been seeing anyone else…
I kept it on my phone because I wasn’t sure how YOU felt.
I smile…
And delete the app.
I take another deep breath.
Bobby, I have a confession.
He looks at me quizzically.
I deactivated my Tinder account…
After our second date.
He smiles…
And heat radiates between us.
So…this is it now?
We’re exclusive?
Bobby gives me a seductive look.
Not yet…
First, let’s make it official.
He moves a hand behind my head…
And pulls us in close.
Tessa…will you be my girlfriend?
My heart pounds.
Yes…
Yes, I would love that.
Bobby moves in…
And my body sings as we lock lips.
I can practically hear fireworks behind us.
We hold our kiss for what feels like hours.
And when we part, I’m a little dizzy.
Now we’re exclusive.
Our lips spread to matching grins.
Just wait until Lisa hears this!
