Bedroomies - Episode 1
by Chris Marie Green
Did you leave something on the sofa before you went on your trip?
Jenna plops into an airport lounge seat, her pulse pattering.
What do you mean?
I found this cute little rubber thing that’s connected to a battery.
Huh. It also vibrates.
OMG.
Imagine my surprise…
When I came back from my trip to find this special gift from my roomie waiting for me!
What’s it for anyway?
Stop teasing!!!
You know damned well what it’s for.
Can you just put it away and forget this happened?
But I have so many questions…
When do you use this? How often?
Adam…
And who do you think about when you use it?
Ok. No more teasing. Purged from my mind.
Who do you think I’m thinking about?
Hah! Just joking.
Were you really?
Yeah…
Sorry. I shouldn’t have joked.
I know the fastest way to alienate a roomie is to do exactly that.
But what if that roomie is constantly out of town when you’re out of town?
What if you don’t see him?
And what if he’s moving out after his condo is refurbished in a little over a week?
Why did you stop typing? What were you just about to say?
The same kind of thing I would have said to you a few years ago in college.
You mercilessly teased me then too.
Usually about when I’d get a boyfriend.
That’s because you never seemed interested in anything but math.
I was trying to get you out of your shell.
Jenna’s skin flushes.
Hey would you look at that—my plane is boarding.
Don’t dodge this.
You need to explain that comment you made.
Who DO you think about when you use that bunny?
No one.
Jen…
Jeez, Adam, what do you want me to say?
That I’m thinking of YOU?
Why not me?
Because you’re…you! And I’m me!
I don’t even know what the hell that means.
It means we’re coworkers who share a living space for now.
You’re a former frat boy and I’m the nerd who tutored you.
All I hear are excuses.
Huh?
You can’t tell me you’ve never walked by my room and thought about me.
Because I’ve done that with you.
Jenna nearly drops the phone.
Last week you came home from a trip and went to sleep just as I was getting out of bed.
I imagined your gorgeous black hair spread over the pillow.
I thought about what you might be wearing and hoped you didn’t have on anything at all.
STOP teasing me. Guys like you don’t…you know.
What?
You’ve got a lot of women to choose from, all right?
And you still think of yourself as a nerd no guy ever notices.
You really have no idea, do you?
I can’t believe we’re having this conversation.
Do you really want me to stop?
Another minute drags by.
You don’t!
Listen—what if I made you a promise?
What?
That if you let me talk to you like this…
Then if we run into each other in your place, none of this will ever come up.
Our schedules don’t allow us to be home at the same time to interact anyway, but still.
Are you proposing that we completely ignore your recent discovery?
Because I’m SO up for that.
That’s not what I’m proposing at all.
I want you to tell me all about last night.
Jenna peers around her in the crowded lounge as boarding starts.
Why should I do that?
Because I want to see this side of you.
And we’re halfway across the country from each other, so there’s nothing to lose.
Jenna smiles as heat consumes her, years of fantasies rushing her.
😈
She blows out a breath.
What the hell?
Last night, I might’ve poured myself a glass of amaretto over ice and put on a movie.
Which one?
Really? You want those nitty gritty details?
I want everything.
Whatever. It was something from Netflix’s steamy section.
Of course it was. And…?
Um…are you asking what I was wearing?
Yes I am.
A few loud heartbeats mark the seconds.
Well, I have this nightie. It’s white, sweet, and innocent. A baby doll gown.
Where is it?
DON’T YOU DARE!
Lol. No worries. I won’t go into your room.
I’m sitting on the sofa right now, waiting for you to continue.
And I’m still waiting…
This is really strange to be telling this to you in the middle of hundreds of people.
Does that turn you on?
!!!
Is that a yes?
Okay. Yes.
Nice to hear. Go on.
About my nightie?
Yeah. Because you wear a lot of business suits these days.
Tell me how it felt to wear something hot like that.
You’re going to make me say things I don’t usually say to anyone, aren’t you?
Damn straight I am.
I always knew there was a little monster behind the nerd who tutored me in college.
Show her to me, Jen.
A final boarding call comes over the loudspeaker.
Jenna can end this right now…
But something’s telling her to let it get even hotter…
