Bloody Jane - Episode 1
by Dana Mele
Roses are red.
Violets are blue.
Text “Bloody Jane” to three friends.
Or she’ll come for you.
Ha. Very funny, Aimee.
I’m not taking any chances…
Years ago, some girl in my sorority blew Jane off.
As well she should.
She’s dead, Kaitlyn. Decapitated in a freak accident.
By a ghost?
Bloody Jane isn’t a ghost. You need to take this seriously.
Aimee, I’m not even at school right now. I’m at my mom’s house.
You know this.
Bloody Jane can find you anywhere.
Kaitlyn gets an incoming text from her friend Dahlia. She clicks on the thread.
Roses are red.
Stop listening to Aimee.
No way. I’m too attached to my head.
So am I. But a killer ghost? Come on.
I’d rather play it safe.
Especially because I’ve been in and out of dead zones since Aimee texted me.
Relax.
And there’s also a car following us.
You’re not driving, are you?
No. Teddy is.
Violets are blue.
How’s the road trip so far?
Eh, there’s no air conditioning, so Teddy’s a little cranky.
Plus, that car is still back there.
Then tell Teddy to slow down and let them pass you.
We’re on a single lane road with a huge drop and no shoulder.
We’re going too fast as it is.
This guy keeps speeding up.
Seriously, tell Teddy to slow down.
Dahlia?
When she doesn’t hear back, Kaitlyn texts Aimee.
Have you spoken to Dahlia?
Earlier today. Why?
I think she’s in trouble.
It’s Bloody Jane!
No, it’s some creeper trying to run her and Teddy off a cliff.
That’s how Jane works. She expects loyalty.
If you don’t warn your friends, she comes after you.
There is an actual person in an actual car trying to hurt Dahlia and Teddy.
We have to do something.
If it’s Jane, it’s too late. Once she comes after you, there are no takebacks.
Gee, thanks for the help. You’re a great friend.
Did you text three friends yet?
I’m busy trying to solve a real problem.
You really shouldn’t blow me off right now…
Kaitlyn shakes her head and texts Dahlia again.
Dahlia? Are you getting any of my texts?
The driver behind us won’t slow down!
He keeps getting closer…
OMG, he hit us! We almost swerved off the road!
Kait, I’m really scared.
Stop driving.
No way. She’s doing this on purpose. She wants to hurt us.
She? I thought you said it was a man who was driving behind you!
Oh my god.
Dahlia, what’s happening?
Roses are red.
Are you okay?
It’s Teddy…
Noooo.
Call 911. We’re at Exit 66.
What highway?
Violets are blue.
Bloody Jane.
Dahlia? Where are you?
Bloody Jane. Bloody Jane. Bloody Jane.
Dahlia, tell me what’s going on!
1 minute later
Aimee, I think something horrible just happened.
Kaitlyn sends Aimee a screenshot of her conversation with Dahlia.
You never believe me.
You can’t seriously expect me to buy into this Bloody Jane thing.
I can and I do. Did you call 911?
I don’t know what to tell them! I don’t know which highway she’s on.
I’ll call. You need to text three friends now.
Like this second.
I’m really freaked out.
Okay. I’ll call and then I’ll come over.
Promise me you’ll send the texts.
Promise…but first I’m going to try to reach Dahlia.
Kaitlyn texts Dahlia.
I’m going to keep texting until you answer.
I don’t believe in ghosts or curses.
Hang on, I think my mom locked herself out again.
2 minutes later
False alarm.
Kaitlyn receives a text from Aimee. She clicks on the thread.
Okay, I called 911. They’re going to ping her location.
I’m so scared.
She’s going to be okay.
What if she isn’t? Someone was following her.
Now do you believe in Bloody Jane?
No! I believe that in real life, people do bad things.
Like this psycho who ran Dahlia and Teddy off the road.
Bloody Jane sees all.
Stop texting and come over. I’m going to keep trying to reach Dahlia.
Have you tried Teddy?
I don’t have his number.
Huh.
Come now!
Kaitlyn switches back to her texts with Dahlia.
I hope you’re okay. If you’re not though…
I need to tell you something.
There’s a confession I need to make.
Hold on. I keep thinking I hear someone knocking at the door.
2 minutes later
Another false alarm. Listen…
Kaitlyn!
Are you okay?
For now. But Teddy…
He’s dead.
It was her.
It was Bloody Jane.
Bloody Jane? Are you kidding me?
I didn’t get a good look. It was so dark.
She was around our age…covered in blood.
She rammed our car into the side of the cliff.
OMG. Are you sure Teddy is dead?
Where are you?
I’m hiding. I climbed down the rocks.
Kaitlyn, I never finished texting three people.
She’s still going to come for me.
There’s no such thing as Bloody Jane.
There is! My sister told me about her years ago.
Hang on, I’ll look her up and prove it to you.
Kaitlyn runs a quick Google search.
It’s nothing but an urban legend.
It can’t be. Aimee’s sorority sister knew the girl Jane murdered.
Well it says here that it’s an urban legend tied to a hazing murder.
I told you!
Calm down and stay focused — we need to get you home.
What do you expect me to do, Kaitlyn?
Stay where you are.
The police are on the way, but that person is still out there.
Just keep texting. I need to be distracted.
Tell me more about Jane.
Let me look. There’s a website on urban legends and real-life murders.
Okay, the knocking noise at my house is starting to creep me out.
Maybe Jane’s coming for you too. Did you text three friends?
Of course not.
Because Jane isn’t real.
No one’s here. But I’m going to lock all the windows to be extra careful.
Jane IS real.
I saw her. I’m telling you — she’s real.
Dahlia, Bloody Jane was a hazing ritual. Some sorority girls made it up to scare pledges.
Bet it worked.
But two girls took it too far when a nonbeliever wouldn’t play along.
They tried to scare her into thinking Bloody Jane was coming for her.
And accidentally killed her?
According to their lawyers. Some witnesses say they actually wanted her dead.
Why?
Some kind of grudge.
Does it say the killers’ names?
This website doesn’t, but let me run another search.
A few minutes later, Kaitlyn opens a group text with Dahlia and Aimee.
Alright you guys, the game’s up.
The girls in the article are Harper Newtown, Cassidy Scott, and Anna Portford.
Your sorority sisters.
And when Aimee sent me the Bloody Jane message…
She told me someone in her sorority died because they didn’t play along.
Lol. Not one of those girls is dead.
😂
You almost had me.
You were scared!
Well, you told me that you were being stalked on a cliff!
That Teddy was dead!!
Haha, yeah — that was a good one.
And I can’t believe you make that whole website! It was a little much.
Will you unlock your door now? I’m downstairs.
Be right down.
Kaitlyn gets a text from Dahlia. She clicks out of the group text to read it.
Wait, Kait — you never told me what you had to confess.
Never mind. We should talk in person.
But it was about Teddy, right?
Don’t worry about it.
He told me about you two.
Look, why don’t you come over? Aimee’s here.
I know she is. I can see her through the window.
What?
It’s too late for Teddy. Bloody Jane doesn’t forgive.
What are you talking about?
Is Teddy actually dead?
It’s too late for you too.
You haven’t been loyal.
Oh my god. Aimee has a knife…call 911.
You haven’t been a good friend.
I’m dead serious! Help!!
Text the words or Aimee will text them for you.
After she kills you.
Please.
10 minutes later, Aimee picks up Kaitlyn’s phone.
Roses are red.
Sorry, Kaitlyn…
Violets are blue.
We tried to warn you.
Bloody Jane
Bloody Jane
Bloody Jane
Who’s next? 😈
