God, I feel this big empty space inside of me. I guess that’s Roxy. Roxy has been taken from me and now I have all this….empty space.
LENA
But somebody’s gotta do something. She’d do it for us.
AMY
Yeah…should I wear my pink pajamas or my orange pajamas?
LENA
What does Randall prefer?
AMY
He thinks I’m Pretty in Pink.
LENA
So go Orange. Always leave them a little frustrated. He’s gotta earn Pink.

LENA
Yeah him. Didn’t he try to pick her up and she told him to get lost?
AMY

LENA
I mean last week, on Tuesday, when she didn’t show up for her shift at Claire’s…he didn’t show up at the FYE. I asked Barry, from the Sunglass Hut? Sven definitely wasn’t there, he always works register on Tuesdays.
AMY
Roxy didn’t show up for work Tuesday night?
LENA
No, I mean, she called in advance, it wasn’t that weird, except she never misses work.
AMY
You were there that night?
LENA
Yeah, it was a slow night, wasn’t a big deal anyway.
AMY
But I saw her that night.
AMY
She was wearing earrings, those adorable little gold ones with the unicorns on them that you guys got in…
LENA
Oh yeah she liked those.
AMY
But she said she picked them up at work.
LENA
Maybe she meant some other day.
AMY
No, she came home around eleven – I remember it was exactly eleven – I was on the porch and my dad was watching the news inside, I heard the music

And she came home. She said she came home from work, and showed me the earrings. Said you guys just got a shipment that night.
LENA
I don’t know, I know she wasn’t there, but maybe it’s no big deal.
AMY
And maybe she wasn’t found dead on the corner with a brick embedded in her skull, Lena!
AMY
She’s dead and we’re alive and it doesn’t seem fair. Everything’s important! She was out Tuesday night! She didn’t tell me the truth about what she was doing.
LENA
Well, like I said, Sven wasn’t at the mall either. He did get suspended once for cursing out the Chemistry teacher…
AMY
Yeah, I mean I’ve known him since I was, like, six, I don’t think of him like that.
LENA
And he’s so weird, he’s so into that “Dad” music. Those Led Zep t-shirts, he’s always singing that “Smells like Teen Angst” song…
AMY

LENA

AMY
No, Roxy was singing that when she came home Tuesday, I remember, I thought it was weird cuz six days a week she’s all Ariana Grande and then suddenly she’s somber rock?
LENA
You think Roxy and Sven were together?
AMY
I don’t know, but she wasn’t at work, she lied about getting the earrings that night, she was up to something!
LENA
She was secretly seeing Sven! OMG.
AMY
That doesn’t mean he killed her, Lena, let’s keep it real.

AMY

He’s warming up some pierogis in the kitchen that he got at the Polish diner.

I never trusted him. Sven’s got beady eyes and that stringy long blond hair and his sullen look…

Yeah, I always found him kind of cute. Anyway, you said Sven asked her out and she said no. Why say no if she was seeing him? She’s single, if she was seeing him, it could be public…
LENA
I dunno. Maybe her parents wouldn’t approve of him. Mine wouldn’t
AMY
So she already had those earrings. You didn’t get a shipment in on Tuesday.
AMY
But you had them in stock before.
LENA
No, they were in the catalog, remember? We were all looking in the catalog at the preorders and agreed they were 2 die 4.
AMY
Yeah, yeah, I liked them too. I still like them, although now they just make me sad if I think about them.
LENA
Well, what are you gonna do with your pair?
LENA
Yeah, I think you should wear them. Roxy would want it.
AMY
I don’t have a pair, Lena, what are you talking about? You said the shipment just came in on Tuesday. I haven’t been there since last month.
LENA
No, but Randall came in and got them for you.
LENA
Tuesday night. He came in and bought them, I smiled at him. He was wearing that blue shirt you like.
AMY
Tuesday night? He was working Tuesday at The Burger Baron.
AMY
That’s what he told me.
LENA
He was at the mall. He bought the earrings, right after we unpacked them.
AMY
He was wearing the blue shirt? The button down Navy blue? The one he is wearing tonight?
LENA
That’s what he wore, yeah.
AMY
He didn’t buy those earrings for me…

When I confronted him, he got all crazy. Just started letting it spill out. In front of mom, even. Roxy told him she was pregnant, he responded with a brick to her head.

Randall just chased me and my mom around the house with a steak knife, I went out my window into the backyard…
LENA

Well. Lucky for me. Sven was nearby with his nunchucks.
