Ensnare - Episode 8
by Chelsea Bobulski
So, this was the plan all along.
You started dating me, not because you liked me, but because you wanted to recruit me.
Every time you said you would never lie to me—
Every time you told me to TRUST you—
Every time you said you’d never let anyone hurt me—
It was all a lie.
Stop being so dramatic.
I’m helping you out. By giving you the opportunity to join the Source…
You can have everything you’ve ever wanted.
But you have to do your part.
You have to follow the Source’s orders to stay safe.
Was the baby planned, too?
To trap me like you trapped Senator Lynthrop?
No, the baby was never part of the plan.
They had enough on you. They could’ve trapped you if that’s what you forced them to do.
Believe me, I got reamed for knocking you up.
Do you actually care about me at all?
Or are you only with me to follow orders?
Of course I care about you.
You have the upbringing to make the perfect First Lady someday.
And your own political ambitions will resonate in today’s feminist culture.
You’re the modern Jackie to my JFK.
None of that tells me you actually care about me as a person.
All it says is that you care about what I bring to the table.
Is that such a bad thing?
Can you honestly say you don’t see me in the same way?
No, I don’t.
And do you know why?
Because my dream of becoming a Supreme Court Justice isn’t a status thing—
And I know it’s not something I can ONLY achieve by being perfectly bred and conditioned.
I want it to come from hard work and determination.
Don’t be so naive. Nothing works that way in Politics.
Then I don’t want anything to do with Politics. I’ve only ever wanted to make a difference.
All that talk about being your First Lady someday was exciting to think about—
But I didn’t care about you because of something you promised me.
I cared about you because of the way you made me feel.
And it was all a lie.
I’m getting really tired of this, Angie.
It’s time for you to grow up and tell the Source you’re in.
Stop being such a child about everything.
I’m keeping the baby, Kyle.
What?! Because I told you to grow up?
No, because I’m not going to let one more person get hurt by your lies.
Did you seriously not understand me?
The Source won’t think twice before killing you.
I thought maybe, if there was any part of you that ever cared about me at all…
You could convince them to let me go.
Find some other way to get what they want. Leave me and my family out of it.
You’re not listening to me, Angie.
So I’ll be crystal clear. I’m not going to let you destroy everything I’ve worked for.
I AM going to be president someday, and I’ll be damned if a broken condom keeps that from happening.
So, no.
I’m not going to stop the Source from killing you, or your precious family.
And I’m going to sleep just fine at night when you’re gone, because you made your own bed.
Kyle — please. This isn’t you.
You said it yourself.
You don’t know anything about me.
Please — Kyle, you’re scaring me.
You should be scared. I’d tell you to keep your bedroom door locked tonight—
But your security team would still be able to get to you.
There’s nowhere you can hide.
See you in tomorrow’s obituary, sweetheart 😘
Angie jumps off of her bed and locks the door, even though she knows it won’t do her any good.
She switches to her text chain with Will.
SOS
What’s wrong?
I’m in danger. I need your help.
Get somewhere safe first.
Is your secret service with you?
They’re the ones I’m hiding from.
??
Remember when I said I didn’t know who I was anymore, or what I was doing?
Yes.
I need to tell you something that’s going to be hard to believe.
Will you trust me?
Always.
