Family Secrets - Epilogue
by Phyllis Korkki
Two months later
Five people are on a boat in the middle of Candlewood Lake.
They have come to pay tribute to a girl named Allison, who died too young.
One person in the boat is Hannah Bright, Allison’s biological daughter.
Standing with his arm around her is Tyler Grant, the CEO of Greathall Industries.
Hannah and Tyler are very much an item.
Standing beside the couple is Bernadette, who loved Allison like a sister.
Bernadette has grown to love Allison’s daughter too.
She has apologized to Hannah for believing Lucinda’s poisonous lies.
There is another man in the group, someone Hannah has met just recently.
His name is Mark Malone, and he is a doctor.
He is Hannah’s biological father.
Virginia hired a detective to find him.
Although no one will ever replace her real parents,
Hannah looks forward to getting to know him
And to meeting her half-brother and half-sister.
The fifth person on the boat is Virginia Pynchon.
The person responsible for Allison’s death.
Virginia once asked Hannah if she could forgive her.
And Hannah has.
Tonight, they each raise a glass to Allison.
And while there is Champagne in four of the glasses,
Virginia has seltzer water in hers.
She stopped drinking 25 years ago
And has never slipped up once.
To Allison, my love!
May you rest in peace.
To Allison!
After the toast, Hannah moves to the other side of the boat.
This family has finally given up its secrets.
But it hasn’t given up its private moments.
Hannah looks over the side of the boat into the water.
Rest in peace, Mom.
