Sara's Got a Crush (Sara Scanlan #3) - Episode 3
by Phyllis Korkki
Mom, you have to help me!
What’s wrong, Sara?!
I have a terrible crush on someone.
And he KNOWS it.
Honestly, Sara. I thought it was a medical emergency.
It is!
I’ve been hyperventilating because this guy is so cute.
And now I’m burning up because he knows I like him.
OMG, Mom.
Now calm down and tell me who it is this time.
His name is Josh Barris.
He’s a tech support guy at work.
I met him when my hard drive melted down.
He’s SO knowledgeable about computers.
He knew exactly what was wrong and fixed it.
Now he’s all I can think about.
From the time I get up in the morning until the time I go to bed.
And I dream about him too.
All I can think about is Josh Josh JOSH!
I’m so lucky I’m still having problems with my computer.
Said no one ever until now.
Today his hand accidentally brushed against mine when he was adjusting my mouse.
And a vibration went all through my body.
But I tried to play it cool.
Then how does he know you like him?
Because after he left my cubicle today I looked up his Instagram account.
I clicked on a really hot picture of him at the gym.
And right then he came back with a cable he forgot to hook up for me.
He saw that I had a huge picture of HIM on my screen!
Oops!
I can feel myself turning beet red just thinking about it!
What did he do when he saw that you were looking at his picture?
He smiled and blushed.
I shut down my computer in a panic.
And then we both pretended nothing happened.
So he must not like me.
Why do you say that?
Maybe he’s just shy.
Do you know if he has a girlfriend?
I did a little sniffing around and he doesn’t.
Then why don’t you do something about your crush?
What do you mean…do something?
I mean, ask this Josh fellow out on a date.
WHAT?!!
I can’t ask a guy out!
It’s 2018. Why not?
What if he says no?
Would that be the end of the world?
Yes, it would.
Especially since he works here.
I’d have to quit my job if he said no.
I’m already embarrassed enough as it is.
You know that’s ridiculous.
Whether he says yes or no, he’ll be flattered.
Wait. Have YOU ever asked a guy out on a date?
Well, no.
Your father asked me out on our first date in college.
And you know I haven’t dated since the divorce.
Then you should talk!
Do as I say, not as I do.
Do YOU have a crush on anyone, Mom?
Well…
You do!
Why didn’t you tell me?
Who is it?
It’s so silly.
It’s one of the baristas at the coffee shop I go to.
He also plays bass in a jazz band.
He’s always joking around with me and shooting the breeze.
And he gives me an awful lot of free coffees.
It’s almost like he’s flirting with me.
It sounds like he IS flirting with you!
But he has to be 10 years younger than me.
Oooh. You know what that means?
What?
That you’re a MILF.
Or are you a cougar?
I don’t know. As of yet, I’m neither.
Tell you what, Mom. Let’s make a pact.
If you ask this barista out — what’s his name?
Andrew.
If you ask Andrew out, I promise to ask Josh out.
Is it a deal?
But if he says no, I’m going to have to start going to a new coffee shop!
Mom, what did you just tell ME?
C’mon. Is it a deal?
Okay, it’s a deal.
the next afternoon
Mom, he said yes!!!!!!!!
That’s great, honey!
I asked him out for drinks after work tonight.
“To discuss RAM storage.”
I’m pretty sure he saw through that.
See?
I’m glad you decided to do it.
Me too.
I’m so excited!!
Gotta get back to work now.
I’ll let you know how it goes.
the next day
OMG, Mom.
What is it?
How did your date go?
Josh is literally the most boring man on the planet.
All he talked about was computers!
Turns out my mentioning RAM storage was a real turn-on for him.
He droned on and on about it for twenty minutes.
I’m sorry he didn’t live up to your expectations, honey.
Looks aren’t everything, Mom.
By the end of the night, those big brown eyes were doing nothing for me.
And now I have a new problem.
What’s that?
He wants to see me again!
He came up to my desk first thing this morning.
And he asked me out for dinner for tonight.
I’m sure he wants to discuss some RAM details that he didn’t cover last night.
I told him I had plans.
It has to be flattering that he likes you, anyway.
I guess so.
Hey, can I come over to your place tonight?
Then it won’t be like I lied to him about having plans.
I’m afraid not.
I have a date.
With Andrew.
The barista??!
OMG, I totally forgot about our pact.
How could I have been so self-centered? I’m sorry.
So you asked him out?
Yes, I asked him out yesterday morning at the coffee shop.
I couldn’t believe he said yes!
We had a wonderful dinner.
We talked for three hours.
And we’re going out again tonight.
And he invited me to his jazz show this weekend.
I’m so happy for you, Mom!
It’s about time you started dating.
I’m glad you suggested that pact.
Me too.
Even though MY crush was a bust.
one month later
Mom, can I come over tonight?
I’m afraid I have plans with Andrew.
You’re sure seeing a lot of him.
Is it…love?
I don’t know.
I’m just enjoying my time with him for now.
Mom, I really need to talk to you.
There’s this guy at work.
Oh no.
He works in marketing.
He’s gorgeous.
He literally makes my heart flutter.
And are his eyes big and brown?
As a matter of fact, they are.
What’s your point?
Remember Josh?
Oh, him.
Looks aren’t everything, you said.
Josh is boring.
Seth is witty and kind and brilliant.
I can tell.
This time is different, Mom.
But I’m going to make sure he doesn’t find out I like him for a long, long time.
If ever.
Because you don’t want to risk being embarrassed?
No. Because I don’t want to risk being DISAPPOINTED.
And having a work crush is just so much FUN.
