The Best Mistakes - Episode 5
by Scarlett Lexington
Scott?
Yep. How are you?
How is she?
She’s confused.
Skye has no idea why he’s texting her now–
Or if he even knows about Caleb.
She decides to test the water.
Fine. How about you?
Hanging in there.
A few minutes go by, but there are no texts from either of them. Skye rolls her eyes at the phone.
Why did he write her if he was just going to ghost?
That’s it?
What do you mean?
Skye takes a deep breath. She forgot how frustrating he could be.
I mean, you reached out to me. Did you want something?
Or did you just want to say hi and disappear?
No, it’s not like that.
Then what is it like?
You’re making this hard.
Me?! I’m not doing anything.
That’s the point. I know I should have gotten in touch sooner…
But it’s been a crazy few weeks, and I wasn’t sure if you were still interested.
But I figured I had to see. You in?
Why today? What made you pick now?
Because I was thinking about you.
For any particular reason?
Yeah. Several. You’re hot as fuck. Funny. Sweet.
And you do that move with your hips that drives me crazy…
I meant your timing. It’s been two months.
I couldn’t have driven you that wild if it took you this long to get in touch with me.
Believe me, I’ve wanted to get in touch—
And I wanted so much more…
Scott 😒
I’m an idiot, okay?
I’d been thinking about you since I got back, but I wasn’t sure what to do.
Why?
Because of our history. I wanted to be sure.
Sure of what?
That this could work. It’s not like I can see the future…
But I know if I don’t try, I’ll always be wondering.
And you came to this decision today?
I was moving some papers around last night, and I found some old mail from the reunion.
I stared at those brochures all night, trying to decide what to do.
You’ve been the only thing on my mind.
Seriously. You’ve taken over every single one of my thoughts—
I know that means I have to see you.
Now, all of a sudden?
Haven’t you thought of me at all?
Not even a tiny bit?
Skye wonders how much to confess.
You may have crossed my mind once or twice.
That’s it? Just once or twice, after that weekend we had?
I think you may need a refresher.
Let’s take you back in time to two months ago. At the reunion…
I recall.
Then do you recall the two times in the auditorium…
The time behind the theater building…
AND all those times in the hotel room you were staying in?
Ahh, the hotel room, like proper adults.
There was nothing proper about that. It sent electricity through my spine.
You moaned so loudly the neighbors had to knock on the wall.
I don’t call that proper — I call it intense.
That may ring a bell…
Know what I’m thinking about now?
I have a guess.
You should give me a repeat performance.
Should I now?
You should. Trust me. Your whole body will be thanking me.
Is that so?
Skye bites her lip. Why is she encouraging him?
It is. I can still picture the way you responded to my touch, always hungry for more.
Don’t deprive yourself of this.
Someone is high on himself.
Someone has reason to be. Tell me I didn’t always leave you satisfied…
It’s true, but Skye doesn’t want to tell him that. Not yet…
No answer? I’ll take that as a good sign. Like maybe your fingers are occupied elsewhere…
Skye shakes her head. He’s such a jerk. But then why is she smiling?
Don’t flatter yourself too much, Romeo. My fingers are right here, texting you.
Too bad.
But admit it, I always knew what you liked, didn’t I?
Skye knows this is probably a bad idea, but she can’t help herself…
That you did.
And I still do. While fingers are fun and all, that’s not what you really like, now is it?
I have no idea what you’re talking about.
😜 😜 😜
Skye covers her mouth with her hands. Did she really just send that?
Now we’re talking.
Now what was it you called it?
My terrific tongue?
My mystical mouth?
The O-maker?
Don’t be ridiculous — you remember.
But I like to hear it from you.
Skye shakes her head. She’s really doing this.
Your magic tongue.
That’s right, my magic tongue 😜
And it’s ready to grant you a wish.
Just one?
You know I never stop with one.
I love hearing those hungry, loud moans of yours. Those wake up the neighbor moans.
Those my poor roommate should’ve gotten sound-canceling headphones moans.
Skye is jolted back to reality.
His roommate.
Caleb.
How had she forgotten about him?!
