The Swap - Part 5
by Athirah Roslan
Hey, Emma. Can we talk?
There's nothing to talk about.
There is.
I want to say that I'm sorry for being a total jerk to you.
I've been a complete asshole.
For using your money...
For invading your privacy...
And for being disrespectful in general.
You're right - we accidentally swapped phones, and that's it.
The past few days have been hectic and thinking back to what happened...
I realize that I haven't treated you well.
I don't know what got into me.
All that matters to me is that you forgive me.
Will you please accept my apology?
We've been jerks to each other.
I think you deserve an apology from me, too.
I'll forgive you if you forgive me? :-)
Haha, ok. I forgive you, Jeremy.
Great! So does this mean that we get to be buddies?
Buddies?
You're right. Probably not.
I don't really want to ruin things between us, anyway. ;-)
The funny thing is, we don't really have anything between us in the first place. :-P
I guess I have to agree with you on that one.
But we could have something between us... :)
You confuse me, Jeremy.
Why?
I've honestly just never met a guy like you...
You've treated me like crap almost the entire time we've been texting...
but then you end up asking for forgiveness and now wanting to be buddies?
That confuses me.
People are full of surprises, aren't they?
Honestly, Emma...there's nothing to be confused about.
The truth is...I like talking to you.
Maybe I don't deserve your friendship...but my day feels empty without you.
And this might sound weird or stupid because we barely know each other...
and bc I've never really met you in person before but...
there's just something about you.
I know that you've probably heard more about me than I've heard about you...
and whatever it is that you think of me...I hope I can convince you that I'm a good guy.
You're nothing like what I've heard.
I mean...people do say that you're an asshole and I agree on that front... but -
I can't believe I'm saying this...but you're different than I thought you'd be.
And you're a true sweetheart, babygirl. Never fail to fascinate me. :-)
Through text message? I fascinate you? Intriguing...and rare.
I am one in a million. And I think you are, too.
Emma smiled. But then quickly realized her inability to trust Jeremy.
Confusion enveloped her as she wondered whether or not he was being real.
Jeremy and Emma had met before. Once - a long time ago.
He just doesn't remember their encounter.
